Family Workshops
Throughout the year, the Morris-Jumel Mansion offers free arts workshops for kids during off-school times such as weekends and school vacations. These offer kids fun and creative ways to learn about American history through involvement in the performing arts, fine arts or crafts. Kids work with MJM staff members and professional teaching artists from the community to complete art projects which connect to the Mansion’s history and mission. Adults are invited to participate too! Please check our calendar of events to find out when the next workshop is being offered. Examples of past workshops are:
Sundial Construction
Colonial Dancing
Paper Quilling
Creative Writing
Drawing in Detail
Design Your Own Period Room
Stenciling
Storytelling
Embroidery
Knitting
Drama Workshop
Tin Lanterns
Annual Spirits of the Past Halloween Event
Check our calendar of events for special events during the year designed to please the whole family. This past year we celebrated Washington’s Birthday with free tours, performances, demonstrations and refreshments and hosted an old fashioned end of the school year Family Day complete with games, contests, performances, raffles and crafts. Our annual Uptown Treasures event in October allows guests to visit several Upper Manhattan cultural institutions free of charge and provides special shuttle buses to transport visitors between sites. Log on to www.uptowntreasures.org for more information about that event and check our calendar for other family program dates coming up.
These programs are supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the Medical Center Neighborhood Fund and the Colgate-Palmolive Company.
