Dining Room

In 1790, President George Washington returned to Morris-Jumel Mansion for a cabinet dinner with John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Henry Knox and Alexander Hamilton. Click here to learn more about this momentous event. This dining table is set for dessert, displayed with fruits and sweets and accompanied by wine. Since dessert was the last course, it was served bare on the table, without a tablecloth. Butlers’ desks and sideboards, off to the side of the room, provided convenient service and storage areas.
