Entrance Hall

Hallways in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries were used as reception rooms and living areas as well as passageways. The Front Hall reflects the Jumels’ taste in furnishings. The elaborately carved and gilded furniture at Morris-Jumel Mansion is in the elegant style known as Empire.

The front door was altered during the Federal period, and at that time the stained glass roundels and fanlight were added. The glass is believed to be some of the earliest surviving stained glass in a New York residence.
