Madame Jumel’s Bedchamber
Eliza Jumel lived in the Mansion longer than any other person, from 1810 to 1865. In the 1820’s, Eliza and her French husband, Stephen, spent a considerable amount of time in Paris and socialized with members of the French imperial court.
The furniture on display in this chamber represents the Jumel’s interest in French furnishings. The curtains, carpet, wallpaper, and upholstery are all in the Empire style. Some of the furnishings are said to have belonged to the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte.
